CrunchUp Live: The Real-Time Moment

Today, at our Real-Time Stream CrunchUp conference Erick Schonfeld is sitting down with Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter; Chris Cox of Facebook; and Bret Taylor, co-founder of FriendFeed.

Contrary to Tweets, Jeff Goldblum Lives

jeff goldblumQuickly after rumors started spreading last week that actor Jeff Goldblum had died, it became apparent that the story was a hoax. Fellow actor Kevin Spacey even publicly confirmed that Goldblum was alive and well.

But that didn’t stop the story from spreading wildly on Twitter, and even being reported on the Today Show in Australia. Last night, Stephen Colbert gave the story its proper mocking, including deriding our collective use of Twitter as a news source (“I don’t see how [twitter user] delicioushair could get this wrong?”) Read the rest of this entry »

Poke.ly Brings Facebook Pokes to Twitter

pokelySome folks will love this, while others will probably think it’s a sign of the impending Twitter apocalypse. Facebook-style pokes have arrived on Twitter, by way of a new service called Poke.ly. Similar to the sheep throwing, virtual drink buying chaos that are Facebook pokes and superpokes, Poke.ly lets you direct any of hundreds of actions at other Twitter users.

To “poke” another user, all you need to do is login to Poke.ly (using Twitter OAuth) and select what type of poke you’d like to initiate – from the mundane like “play tennis with” to the more risqué like “do body shots with” (there are far worse) – and who you’d like to send it to.
